Mourning continues for George Floyd.

The World is speaking out, craving for justice in the killing of George Floyd. Protests, demonstrations and massive mass attack are heading over in several parts of the United States.

George Floyd a 46 years old man, the resident of Minnesota, choked to death in the police custody, after few police officers pinned him on the ground with his knees for few minutes.  

A sad video clicked by the passerby surfacing online showing the encounter of George Floyd, pleading the below stated words.”Please, please, please I can’t breathe. Please, man,” 

In the wake of his senseless death, here are few notable things that you should know about George Floyd.

1. Who Was George Floyd?

Georgy Floyd lived in St.Louis, a Minneapolis suburb. He grew up in Houston and went to Star High School. He was an athlete playing basketball. He further received a scholarship to play basketball in the college. George continued to play at a community college in Florida. He was known as “Big Floyd” by his teammates. It is because of his height which is 6-foot-7-inch along with a heavy build. He was also known as a calm person. His friend Cyril N. White stated that “He was a natural comedian, a life-of-the-party type guy, real easy going.”

George was looking for training to become a truck driver and was quite happy living in Minneapolis.

2. George Floyd was a loving father and loved by his family

George Floyd the gentle giant was an extremely warmhearted person and loved by his family members immensely. His sister Bridgett Floyd mourned by the news of his dear brother’s death, spoke that the policemen have murdered her brother; they have wrongly killed him by choking him to death. In a civilized society where people talk about humanity and social love, where do such civil servants get the authority to end touch and kill a man wrongly? She further added, these civil servants should get more punishment only firing them is not a solution.

George left behind his 6 years old daughter who lives in Houston.

3. George was a nation lover. He loved his city Minneapolis.

Floyd had a love affair relationship with Ross who is completely heartbroken right now and protesting against the wrong gesture made by the part of the US government official. She said, “Waking up this morning to see Minneapolis on fire would be something that would devastate Floyd. He loved the city. He came here [from Houston] and stayed here for the people and the opportunities… Floyd was a gentle giant. He was about love and about peace,” 

Benjamin Crump one of the family’s attorneys has issued the statement echoing out from Ross’s sentiment. The family is thanking the protestors for joining and rising voice for justice. 

They stated that “we cannot sink to the level of our oppressors, and we cannot endanger each other as we respond to the necessary urge to raise our voices in unison and outrage.”

4. The 46-year-old St. Louis Park resident George was a security guard at Conga Latin Bistro in Minneapolis

George Floyd, a free and gentle guy use to work at a restaurant for the last five years. This man renter a home from the restaurant’s owner named, Jovanni Thunstrom. He stated that George was a nice human and lived in Houston for some years of his life. He was not only a good employee but a great friend. His gentle greets every day was a positive vibe for all.  

Jovanni Thunstrom further stated after witnessing the reason for his murder, I quote “Today I woke up to hear the very sad news. I saw a video of a black man been choke to dead by a Minneapolis police officer with his knee and the black man begging for his life. Then I found out that this person was my employee and a very good friend. Watching this video makes tears come out, my body is full of emotions, of questions without an answer. Maybe I am stupid, but not blind, I just saw a white police officer choke to death a black person without justification, it is clear as water, it’s plain murder, it can’t go unpunished. We live in a society of law and order, police are supposed to serve and protect; I didn’t see any of this. My employee George Floyd was murdered by a Police officer that had no compassion used his position to commit a murder of someone that was begging for his life. I will like to keep on writing, but my vision is blurry, from the tears coming out of my eyes. I am sorry, I usually don’t cry.”

5. The celebration of life services will be held in North Carolina, Texas and Minnesota.

George Floyd was a man of good heart and deeds. He lived a happy life among loving friends and family. 

On his sudden dismiss, people have turned out for justice. Crump said that the conclusion of the independent autopsy, the family intends to have multiple homes going services for their loving Giant Floyd.  

A lot of services will take place in North Carolina, Minnesota, and Texas on his memory. George has lived in all the three states and has portions of this life spent here. He died a premature death, by some of the ill-hearted civil servants- which have turned this killing from protest to riot at the US.

6. George was known as Big Floyd as a Gentle Giant 

People surrounding George was overwhelmed by his gestures of showing love and affection. One of the restaurant security guards happened to be his friend, who stated that “his love-filled hugs were regular”. He further added “[He] would be mad if you didn’t stop to greet him because he honestly loved seeing everyone and watching everyone have fun,”

George was enthusiastic and fond of helping others. He tried to teach Thunstrom one of his friends, how to dance the Bachata. George could not do it as George was 6 feet 6 inches. He added “He wasn’t the type that was aggressive, disrespectful. Floyd was a very calm, nice guy. I want people to remember him that way.”

7. George Floyd resisted arrest after officers responded to a forgery call Monday.

The Minneapolis police said Floyd resisted arrest after the officers responded to a fake call Monday connecting suspects who appear to be under the influence. The department officials stated that they find Floyd in his car and asked him to come out of it. Once George came out of the car, he physically resisted the officials which made them arrest him.

The civil officials stated that “Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress. Officers called for an ambulance. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance, where he died a short time later. At no time were weapons of any type used by anyone involved in this incident.”

These falsifications on the part of the city officials have made the protestors run behind what was the reason for killing him on spot. The viral video clearly shows that the officers choked him to death, in spite of his repeated cry for “I can’t breathe”.

8. Floyd’s family calls for murder charges against the involved civil officers

George Floyd’s family and friends state that there was a pressure applied to the officers involved in the killing of their closed friend. They said that “I would like to see the officers charged with murder and convicted. I would not be happy with anything less. In my mind, they executed him.”

They are even stating that the plan was to make the officers charged with the murder of George Floyd. The four officers are fired from their service.

9. Georg’s Former partner paid a tribute to Floyd on her social media post

A loving relationship with his former partner Christina Dawson her break down in tears. She paid her last tribute saying that” they killed my baby”. Tortured to the core, the man tried till the last few minutes, pleading for life. The civil officials did not listen to him. The sad soul is making her last memories only resort to believing in what has happened. The inhuman torture has given birth to a massive protest which turned out to be a riot.

10. Protestors pleading for George Floyd’s Justice 

The four police officers involved in the part of this murder crime of George Floyd are dismissed from their civil service. One of the fired police officer Derek Chauvin is finally arrested charged with the third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter 4 days after George Floyd’s death. At the same time, the FBI officials have announced that they will be investigating the entire incident in a joint probe with the state police. It has opened a civil rights investigation into the incident.

US President Donald Trump has equally been vocal about the incident on the online social media platforms. He has tweeted stating his concerns towards demonstration of the protest which turned into violent riot now. He added “I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership”

This tweet has created a lot of controversy among the people of America and the outside world. Speaking about the violence and engulfing the city, has flagged off the tweet guidelines.

The angry protestors have taken over to the streets of Minneapolis. It started from Tuesday afternoon to express the solidarity with George Floyd. Although, it was a peaceful demonstration and protest at the initial stage, now turned out to be most dangerous in a few hours, a riot is hitting the streets of the US.

By Thursday night looting, vandalism and arson had resulted in damage. The rioters set fire to the chain of stores, including Autozone. A Target store was looted where people dismantling the equipment, smashing windows and taking what they could from inside. The violence has reached a peak which prompted the Government of Minnesota to active the National Guard for peach restoration.

This incident has urged the black people too, to come forward creating a community to reveal and protest for George’s death. Hope, we attain peace to this injustice held on the part of George Floyd.
