Coming from the makers of sci-fi thrillers like Ex Machina and Annihilation, Devs is a mind-bending drama, made for the small screen. It focuses on a young software engineer named Lily Chan, played by Sonoya Mizuno, who works for a computing firm in Silicone Valley. Her boyfriend was murdered on the very first day of his job but what for and by whom? She begins suspecting that the company might have a hand in murdering her boyfriend so she starts investigating about the CEO of the firm. The first season comprising of 8 episodes released in March, 2020 and garnered a 7.7/10 IMDb rating.

Another period drama series we have on our list is Harlots. It is set in 1763 England where one in every five women is a prostitute. You would be glad to know that it is written and directed by women (Moira Buffini and Coky Giedroyc, respectively). If you are a Joey King, you just cannot miss out this Hulu original series. Along with Joey King, it stars the Oscar winner Patricia Arquette. It is a true crime drama based on the true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard. Gypsy and Dee Dee share a complicated mother-daughter relationship which eventually leads to Dee Dee’s murder by Gypsy’s boyfriend on her suggestion. Dee Dee suffers from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a condition that causes her to fake many of Gypsy’s “illnesses” — from cancer to brain damage. It has 8/10 IMDb rating and was premiered in eight parts in March, 2019.

Starring comedian Ramy Youssef in this semi-autobiographical dramedy, playing a version of himself, a character named Ramy Hassan. He navigates life growing up in New Jersey while straddling the line between the millennial generation he’s a part of and the Muslim community he belongs to. He wrestles with the constraints of his religion and his upbringing, while searching for meaning in more modern pursuits — drinking, partying, and hooking up. It’s a heartwarming, eye-opening, and never takes itself too seriously kind of series. It has 8/10 IMDb rating and 2 seasons with 10 episodes in each season. In July, 2020 Hulu renewed the series for a third season.

It is a historical drama mini series starring Jeff Daniels and Peter Sarsgaard based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by Lawrence Wright . Daniels plays John O’Neill, the chief of the New York FBI’s Counterterrorism Center in the 1990s, and Sarsgaard plays Martin Schmidt, the CIA head of counterterrorism. The series showcases the rivalry between FBI and CIA which may have inadvertently set the path for 9/11 attacks. He falls in love with Alaska Young (Kristine Froseth), and finds a group of loyal friends. But after an unexpected tragedy, Miles and his close friends attempt to make sense of what they’ve been through.

The Great is a satirical comedy-drama television series based on the rise of Catherine the Great from being an outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history. It stars Elle Fanning as Catherine, the Empress and Nicholas Hoult as the Emperor of Russia. Hoult plays a sadistic sociopath and Fanning is his hopeful bride-to-be. She comes to the palace looking for love but ends up launching a coup and a plot to murder her new, dangerous husband. The first season was released in May, 2020 with all its 10 episodes and going by the audience’s response Hulu renewed the series for it’s second season. It has got 8.1/10 IMDb rating.

11.22.63 is sure to give you chills as this exhilarating series is sure to get you hooked. Produced by J.J. Abrams and created by Bridget Carpenter, 11.22.63 is adapted from a Stephen King novel and stars James Franco. James as Jake Epping, is a newly divorced high school teacher, who travels back in time to October 1960. There, he decides to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy, but his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, falling in love and the past itself, which doesn’t want to be changed. It has a 8.2/10 IMDb rating and was released in February 2016. It is a close-ended mini series with 8 exciting episodes.

This 12-part miniseries is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by the Irish author Sally Rooney. As the name suggests, it portrays the story of two normal teenagers – Marianne and Connell. They navigate their final year of high school in Country Sligo, they begin an on-again-off-again relationship that continues through their time at Trinity College in Dublin. With an IMDb rating of 8.5/10 you will surely enjoy this series of young romance. It is equal parts relatable and heart-breaking.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s best-selling novel of the same name, Handmaid’s Tale is set in a dystopian future run by a fundamentalist government renamed Gilead. The fertility rate has bottomed out, women have been deprived of their rights, and the men have turned them into reproductive vessels. It’s a harrowing series, often so bleak that it’s difficult to watch, with its themes being so darker and impactful. Till now it has had 3 seasons with a total of 36 episodes with fourth season in progress and an IMDb rating of 8.5/10.
